DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who work, or are based permanently on an offshore installation or facility.

PRE-REQUISITES: None

DESCRIPTION:
In an emergency scenario personnel on an offshore facility may be required to abandon his/her station due to an onsite emergency and then survive at sea. This unit of competency is designed to allow personnel to improve their chance of survival through the application of agreed sea survival techniques and strategies following abandonment of the facility.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence is demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Conduct offshore facility abandonment procedures
  • Carry out safe water entry procedures from height
  • Demonstrate the operation & use of a life jacket
  • Deploy, board & manage a life raft
  • Right a life raft
  • Demonstrate techniques to assist in the delay of hypothermia
  • Distinguish between causes of problems, alarms & fault indications

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees will demonstrate/explain/identify their level of knowledge, skills and understanding through oral and/or written questioning and practical activities. Assessment for this unit of competency will involve an abandonment simulation.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this Unit of Competency trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PMAOHS215B Apply Offshore Facility Abandonment and Sea Survival Procedures and Practices.

DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, desktop activities and discussion.
5 hours of practical components using facility abandonment & sea survival equipment in a range of simulated scenarios.
