DURATION: 0.5 days

DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel that may be called upon to control small incidents in the workplace. Such incidents could include: fires of the A,B,C,D,E and F classes, fuel and other spills, process overheating, and equipment failure.

PRE-REQUISITES: None

DESCRIPTION:
Trainees will be part of a team during an incident response. However, the person may be required to take independent action. At all times they would be liaising and cooperating with other members of the team.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Classify fires and incidents
  • Know the limitations of first response equipment
  • Judge situations that must not be responded to because of the risk to life
  • Describe the hazards involved with first response action
  • Understand relevant workplace procedures
  • Select appropriate first response equipment
  • Understand the theory of fire and relevant incidents.

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

MSAPMOHS205A/01 Evaluate the incident
MSAPMOHS205A/02 Control the incident
MSAPMOHS205A/03 Conclude the incident control

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in MSAPMOHS205A Control Minor Incidents.

DELIVERY METHOD:
1.5 hour of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
2.5 hours of practical components using fire-fighting equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
