COMMONLY KNOWN AS: FTMO
DURATION: 3 days
DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who will be expected to respond to an emergency situation in an offshore environment as part of the emergency response team.
PRE-REQUISITES: None
DESCRIPTION:
This course has been designed by ERGT combining several Units of Competency. In this course trainees will be given the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively respond to a range of emergency situations they may encounter in an offshore facility through a number of simulated scenarios.
CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:
MSAPMOHS216A Operate breathing apparatus for emergency response:
- Complete appropriate checks of a breathing apparatus
- Don and adjust a breathing apparatus
- Use a breathing apparatus
- Demonstrate breathing apparatus emergency procedures
- Follow organisation’s procedures
- Correctly remove a breathing apparatus.
MSAPMOHS212A Undertake first response to fire incidents:
- Identify different types of fires
- Select and use of appropriate extinguishing agent
- Apply defensive fire fighting tactics and techniques
- Select and use of appropriate protective clothing.
PMAOHS213B Undertake fire control and emergency rescue:
- Work effectively in a team
- Recognise fire behaviour
- Demonstrate the impact of fire fighting tactics
- Conduct fire fighting operations in accordance with the organisation’s safe work practices.
OR
AMSA Minimum standard of competence in fire prevention and fire fighting*:
- Use of portable fire extinguishing equipment
- Use of self contained breathing apparatus
- Extinguish small fires
- Extinguish extensive fires with water using jet and spray patterns
- Extinguish fires with foam, and other chemical agents
- Fight fires in smoke filled enclosed spaces wearing self contained breathing apparatus
- Extinguish fires in simulated accommodation areas
- Extinguish ‘B Class fires
- Conduct a rescue in a smoke filled space wearing breathing apparatus.

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees will be assessed against the learning outcomes using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.
CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this course trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in Fire Team Member Offshore comprised of the following Units of Competency:

DELIVERY METHOD:
8 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, desktop activities and discussion.
16 hours of practical components using fire fighting equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
*Please Note: Training and assessment of individuals for qualifications (or Units of Competency) in the Maritime Sector is different from many other sectors because of the strict international, national and State/Territory maritime regulations. Registered Training Organisations therefore, must also adhere to certification requirements of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and/or the respective State/Territory Marine Authorities. These requirements are detailed in the respective maritime regulations and codes (i.e. IMO STCW 95 Code and Convention).
