COMMONLY KNOWN AS: Authorised Gas Tester (AGT)

DURATION: 1 day

DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel intending to become an Authorised Gas Tester within the workplace.

PRE-REQUISITES: None

DESCRIPTION:
In a typical scenario an individual may be required to carry out gas testing of an atmosphere prior to entering a specific area or workspace. The competency requires the person to interpret readings and take actions based on the interpretation.

CONTENT: It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Identify common chemical asphyxiates, irritants, corrosives and flammable gases
  • Prepare and plan for monitoring
  • Operate gas test equipment
  • Take precautions to safe guard health
  • Take atmospheric readings
  • Maintain equipment.

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCE:

MSAPMOHS217A/01 Prepare for gas testing
MSAPMOHS217A/02 Test gas
MSAPMOHS217A/03 Maintain equipment

ASSESSMENT:
Assessment of underpinning knowledge will be by way of oral questioning and through the completion of a workbook. Trainees will also be required to demonstrate competence through practical scenarios requiring gas-testing techniques.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PMAOMIR217A Gas Test Atmospheres.

DELIVERY METHOD:
4 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
4 hours of practical components using specialised equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
