Depending on which company you work for, you may have to complete the Internationally recognised OPITO Approved TBOSIET or BOSIET course, instead of the Nationally recognised HUET course. If you are unsure which course you should do, please contact us.
MEDICAL CLEARANCE REQUIRED
Trainees will be required to supply a completed medical clearance on their first day of training. This medical clearance must have been completed by a medical practitioner, within three months of the start of the course.
Please print the ERGT approved Medical Form (PDF above), and present this to your medical practitioner to obtain your medical clearance.

DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who are required to regularly travel by helicopter over water.
PRE-REQUISITES: None
DESCRIPTION:
This course in Helicopter Underwater Escape and Sea Survival teaches the skills and theory required to improve an individual’s chance of surviving a helicopter ditching in water.
CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course in:
- offshore helicopter operations and general safety
- psychology and physiology of sea survival
- personal protective and emergency equipment deployment techniques, lifejacket use & operation
- helicopter abandonment procedures - surface and inverted
- individual and group survival techniques
- life raft operation and deployment techniques
- personal protective and emergency equipment deployment techniques, lifejacket use & operation

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees will demonstrate/explain/identify their level of knowledge, skills and understanding through oral and/or written questioning and practical activities. Assessment for this unit of competency will involve helicopter ditching simulations.
CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PMAOHS214B Undertake Helicopter Safety & Escape.
DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
5 hours of practical components using specialised equipment in a series of exercises involving simulated helicopter abandonment and survival at sea.
This training is conducted in a heated pool between 28 and 30 degrees celsius.
