DURATION: 0.5 days

DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel working offshore who are responsible for the duties of Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) or Helicopter Landing Officer’s Assistant, involved in helicopter refuelling operations on offshore platforms and mobile units.

PRE-REQUISITES:
Personnel attending the course should be qualified as an HLO or HLO’s assistant, preferably with experience in offshore helicopter operations.

DESCRIPTION:
To provide trainees with the knowledge and skills to confidently and competently carry out the duties involved with refuelling helicopters in an offshore environment.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Operate fuel reception into storage from ships
  • Provide quality control of fuel from both bulk storage and drums
  • Fuel helicopters using cabinet equipment and drums
  • Maintain equipment used in fuelling helicopters
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures
  • Knowledge of relevant guidance documentation

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees will demonstrate/explain/identify their level of knowledge/skills/understanding through oral and/or written questioning and practical activities. Assessment for this unit of competency will involve simulated scenarios involving helicopter refuelling.

CERTIFICATION:
Upon successful completion of the course each trainee will receive a Certificate of Training in Helicopter Refuelling.

DELIVERY METHOD:
1.5 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
2.5 hours of practical components using specialised equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
