Personnel who have the responsibility for monitoring and controlling work permits within their workplace such as a permit co-ordinator or permit issuer.

PRE-REQUISITES:

MNMC205A Conduct local risk assessment

MSAPMPER201A Monitor & Control Work Permits

Please Note: All pre-requisites and co-requisites units are delivered within this course.

DESCRIPTION:
This Unit of Competence covers the operational conditions in which a permit to work has been issued, and the required activities and functions associated with the production/process of chemical, hydrocarbons and oil products.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Identify the importance of different work permits & carry out action specified in the permit
  • Monitor and control multiple work permits & recognize deviations
  • Apply OH&S and other appropriate procedures
  • Take appropriate action to resolve faults or report faults to appropriate personnel
  • Explain and implementing emergency procedures
  • Timely and effectively use communication
  • Follow safety procedures

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

MSAPMPER300B/01 Identify need for work permit
MSAPMPER300B/02 Prepare work site for authorised work
MSAPMPER300B/03 Raise and issue work permits
MSAPMPER300B/04 Monitor work for compliance
MSAPMPER300B/05 Withdraw work permit

ASSESSMENT:
Assessment of underpinning knowledge will be by way of oral questioning and completion of a workbook. Trainees will also be required to demonstrate competence through practical scenarios involving the use of permits.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in:

  • MSAPMPER300B Issue Work Permits
  • MSAPMPER201A Monitor and Control Work Permits

DELIVERY METHOD:
6 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
8 hours of practical components and simulated work scenarios.
