DURATION: 2 days

DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who would typically be part of an emergency response team and who, following an incident, undertakes the responsibility for making the initial assessment of the extent and nature of emergency care required.

PRE-REQUISITES:

PUAEME001B Provide Emergency Care

DESCRIPTION:
This unit covers competency in more advanced emergency care and may include the use of emergency equipment.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Maintain universal hygiene precautions
  • Accurate use of documentation
  • Observe and assess skills
  • Correctly use life saving equipment
  • Appropriately manage techniques for emergency encounters.

PUAEME002C/01 Assessment of scene
PUAEME002C/02 Assess casualty
PUAEME002C/03 Implement emergency management procedures
PUAEME002C/04 Move the casualty
PUAEME002C/05 Complete documentation

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PUAEME002C Manage Injuries at an Emergency Incident.

Note: Trainees unable to meet course pre-requisites will ONLY be issued with a Certificate of Training and will be unable to participate in some practical scenarios.

DELIVERY METHOD:
6 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
10 hours of practical components using emergency care equipment in a range of simulated casualty management scenarios.
