MEDICAL CLEARANCE REQUIRED
Trainees will be required to supply a completed medical clearance on their first day of training. This medical clearance must have been completed by a medical practitioner, within three months of the start of the course.
Please print the ERGT approved Medical Form (PDF above or attached to the booking paperwork which will be sent to you) and present this to your medical practitioner to obtain your medical clearance.

COMMONLY KNOWN AS: BOSIET
DURATION: 2.5 days
DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who are new to the offshore oil and gas industry and require the safety and emergency response training and assessment requirements to work in an offshore, cold water* environment - covers warm water (tropical) environments also.
PRE-REQUISITES: None
DESCRIPTION:
This course consists of four parts; safety induction, helicopter safety and escape (including use of a transit type survival suit and EBS), sea survival, fire fighting and self rescue.
CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated in all parts of the course:
Safety induction: 100% theory
- Industry overview and installation overview
- Offshore hazards
- Offshore environment
- Organisation for safety
- Safety management system
- Permit to work
- Living offshore.
Helicopter safety and escape: 40% theory 60% practical
- Helicopter travel
- Helicopter emergencies
- Helicopter safety and escape
- Donning and use of a transit type survival suit
- Operation and use of an Emergency Breathing System (EBS)
Sea survival: 40% theory 60% practical
- Evacuation and escape
Firefighting and self rescue: 40% theory 60% practical
- Firefighting offshore
- Self rescue
ASSESSMENT:
Trainees will demonstrate/explain/identify their level of knowledge, skills and understanding through oral and/or written questioning and practical activities.
CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in OPITO Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET), and a personalised BOSIET identity card.
In addition to the OPITO certification, this course also meets the requirements for the following National Units of Competency from the Chemical, Hydrocarbons & Oil Refining Training Package (PMA02), the Asset Maintenance Training Package (PRM04) and the Maritime Training Package (TDM01). Successful completion of these Units of Competency will also be displayed on the certificate:

DELIVERY METHOD:
7 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
13 hours of practical components using specialised equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
*Practical training is conducted in a heated pool (28 to 30 degrees celcius).
