MEDICAL CLEARANCE REQUIRED
Trainees will be required to supply a completed medical clearance on their first day of training. This medical clearance must have been completed by a medical practitioner, within three months of the start of the course.
Please print the ERGT approved Medical Form (PDF above or attached to the booking paperwork which will be sent to you) and present this to your medical practitioner to obtain your medical clearance.

DURATION: 2 days
DESIGNED FOR:
This course is designed for personnel who are new to the offshore oil and gas industry and who require the safety and emergency response training and assessment requirements to work in an offshore, warm water (tropical*) environment only.
PRE-REQUISITES: None
DESCRIPTION:
This course consists of four parts; safety induction, helicopter safety and escape, sea survival, fire fighting and self rescue.
CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated in all parts of the course.
Safety Induction:
- Offshore hazards
- Waste disposal / environment awareness
- Role of the HSE / offshore safety regulations
- Permit to Work
- Procedures for prescribed medicines offshore
- Alcohol and substance abuse policy
- PPE requirements
- Procedure for reporting incidents, accidents and near misses
- Role of the medic.
Helicopter Safety & Escape:
- Donning an aviation lifejacket
- Actions in preparation for a helicopter ditching and an emergency landing
- Actions following a variety of emergency scenarios with a helicopter including stable and unstable ditching.
Sea Survival:
- Donning of a permanent buoyancy lifejacket prior to use in an emergency
- Actions when mustering and boarding a survival craft (TEMPSC) as passenger during launching operations and actions during and after boarding a marine liferaft
- The first aid actions suitable for use in a liferaft and TEMPSC
- Fitting of a helicopter strop and body posture during winching.
Fire Fighting & Self Rescue:
- Use of appropriate hand held portable fire extinguisher
- Use of a small bore fire hose reel and fire blanket
- Appropriate self rescue techniques using a smoke hood and an escape type breathing apparatus.
ASSESSMENT:
Trainees will demonstrate/explain/identify their level of knowledge, skills and understanding through oral and/or written questioning and practical activities.
CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this programme trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training OPITO. Trainees will also receive a personalised TBOSIET identity card.
ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:
In addition to the OPITO certification, this course also meets the requirements for the following National Units of Competency from the Chemical, Hydrocarbons & Oil Refining Training Package (PMA02)and the Asset Maintenance Training Package (PRM04). Successful completion of these Units of Competency will also be displayed on the certificate:

DELIVERY METHOD:
6 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
10 hours of practical components using specialised equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
*Practical training is conducted in a heated pool (28 to 30 degrees celsius).
