MEDICAL CLEARANCE REQUIRED
Trainees will be required to supply a completed medical clearance on their first day of training. This medical clearance must have been completed by a medical practitioner, within three months of the start of the course.

Please print the ERGT approved Medical Form (PDF above or attached to the booking paperwork which will be sent to you) and present this to your medical practitioner to obtain your medical clearance.

DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who have current TBOSIET/TFOET certification and who need to add emergency breathing system training to their skill base.

PRE-REQUISITES: Current certification in OPITO TBOSIET or OPITO TFOET

DESCRIPTION:
This course complements the TBOSIET and FOET courses and enables personnel to travel to an offshore oil and gas installation by helicopter (in a warm water tropical environment) when issued with an Emergency Breathing System (EBS).

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

Helicopter Emergencies:

  • Donning an aviation lifejacket and EBS
  • In-flight emergencies
  • Ditching and emergency landing
  • Evacuation

EBS Familiarisation:

  • Evacuation
  • Donning an aviation lifejacket and EBS
  • Verifying the integrity of the EBS equipment
  • Carrying out re-breathing actions using EBS in dry conditions
  • Carrying out breathing actions in a pool environment utilising personal air

Practical Helicopter Escape:

  • Donning an aviation lifejacket and EBS
  • Preparation for a helicopter ditching/emergency landing
  • Actions following a controlled ditching on water
  • Actions following a partial submersion of an aircraft
  • Actions following an aircraft capsize

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees will be assessed against learning outcomes using direct observation; oral and/or written questions; and/or use of a workbook; and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of the course, trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in OPITO Tropical Emergency Breathing System Training.

DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
5 hours of practical components using specialised equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
