ASSESSMENT AIM
This course is designed to assess Installation Managers or Facility Incident Commanders’ ability to combat major offshore emergencies in accordance with OPITO MOME standards.

ASSESSMENT CONTENT
A minimum of three emergency scenarios will take place to ensure the standards of performance are covered. Each scenario will be based around a major incident, chosen from:

  • Well control incident
  • Explosion and fire
  • Accommodation fire
  • Helicopter incident
  • Pipeline incident
  • Collision or wave damage causing structural collapse
  • Loss of stability (mobile installations)

COMPETENCY
This Units of Competency are concerned principally with emergencies involving large numbers of people and which by their very nature are threats to life, the installation or the environment. ERGT Australia is licensed and audited by the UK based, Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO) to deliver and assess trainees against the Offshore Installation Manager (OIM) Management of Major Emergencies Standard. ERGT strongly recommends that persons unfamiliar with the OPITO process do not attempt this course without exposure to the assessment requirement and ideally be appraised as being ready for assessment in training exercises or drills offshore, prior to formal assessment.

ASSESSMENT PREREQUISITES
Course trainees should have completed an OPITO pre-assessment Appraisal prior to attempting this assessment. Additionally, trainees must also provide a copy of the following (completed and signed by their OIM or Supervisor); before certificates can be issued.Element 1 – Maintain a State of Readiness (for OPITO).

METHOD OF TRAINING
2 x days for simulator familiarisation & OIM practice sessions, plus 1 day for each OIM Assessment. Trainees who successfully complete this course will be issued with an OPITO registered certificate to the standard: OIM’s Management of Major Emergencies (MOME).

REQUALIFICATION
Reassessment is required every 3 years under these standards.
