DURATION: 1.5 days

DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who need to be able to confidently and efficiently use Supplied Air Breathing Apparatus (SABA) and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for work or emergency response situation in hazardous environments.

PRE-REQUISITES: None

DESCRIPTION:
This course is highly practical in nature with brief theory sessions used to develop knowledge and understanding. The aim of this course is provide trainees with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely use Supplied Air Breathing Apparatus (SABA) & Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) in an irrespirable atmosphere.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence is demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Recognise the physiology of respiration
  • Identify the need for SABA & SCBA
  • Don, wear, remove and service SABA & SCBA equipment
  • Use a SABA & SCBA in hazardous environments
  • Demonstrate correct entry control procedures.

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

MSAPMOHS216A/01 Prepare to use breathing apparatus
MSAPMOHS216A/02 Use breathing apparatus
MSAPMOHS216A/03 Conclude operations

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency, trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in MSAPMOHS216A Operate Breathing Apparatus Emergency Response & Airline.

DELIVERY METHOD:
4 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
8 hours of practical components using breathing apparatus equipment in a range of work & emergency response simulated scenarios.
