DURATION: 1 day
DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who need to be able to confidently and efficiently use Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for emergency response situation in hazardous environments.
PRE-REQUISITES: None
DESCRIPTION:
This Unit of Competency covers competence associated with the use of breathing apparatus in an irrespirable atmosphere and its basic maintenance.
CONTENT:
It is essential that competence are demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:
- Complete appropriate checks of a breathing apparatus
- Don and adjust a breathing apparatus
- Use a breathing apparatus
- Demonstrate breathing apparatus emergency procedures
- Follow organisation’s procedures
- Correctly remove a breathing apparatus.

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.
CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this Unit of Competency trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PMAOHS216B Operate Breathing Apparatus (for Emergency Response).
DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, desktop activities and discussion.
5 hours of practical components using Breathing Apparatus in a range of emergency response simulated scenarios.
