DURATION: 1 day

DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who are part of a rescue team and are required to apply safe work practices in rescue operations and use equipment in accordance with organisational procedures.

PRE-REQUISITES:

PUAEME001B Provide Emergency Care or equivalent

CO-REQUISITE:

PUATEA001B Work in a team

Note: Co-requisite is delivered during this course.

DESCRIPTION:
This unit covers the competency to participate in rescue operations as a member of a rescue team.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Use safe work practices in rescue operations
  • Use equipment in accordance with organisational procedures
  • Respond and react to instructions in a safe, correct and timely manner.

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

PUASAR001B/01 Prepare and respond to rescue
PUASAR001B/02 Participate in assessing the rescue scene
PUASAR001B/03 Perform rescue
PUASAR001B/04 Conclude rescue operations

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment PUASAR001B Participate in a Rescue Operation and PUATEA001B Work in a Team.

Note: Trainees unable to meet course pre-requisites will ONLY be issued with a Certificate of Training.

DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
5 hours of practical components using rescue equipment in a range of incident response scenarios.
