DESCRIPTION:
This competency unit covers the identification, avoidance, review, and evaluation of workplace risks and hazards, maintenance of personal safety and the reporting to supervisors and team members.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Correct identification of hazards in the workplace
  • Application of organisational procedures including the correct selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Advising and reporting workplace hazards in accordance with the organisation’s requirements
  • Notifying risks to a team and a supervisor in a timely manner.

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

PUAFIR201B/01 Identify workplace hazards and risks and advise others
PUAFIR201B/02 Implement hazard control procedures
PUAFIR201B/03 Review effectiveness of hazard control procedures
PUAFIR201B/04 Participate in the implementation of OH&S in the workplace

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PUAFIR201B Prevent Injury.

DELIVERY METHOD:
1.5 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
2.5 hours of practical components using a range of hazard control equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
