DURATION: 1 day

DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who would provide the initial emergency care following an accident within the workplace.

PRE-REQUISITES:

PUAFIR201B Prevent Injury (Fire Specific)

DESCRIPTION:
This unit covers the competency to provide emergency care pending the arrival of appropriately qualified personnel.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Apply first aid skills
  • Maintain universal precautions and safety awareness
  • Complete accurate documentation
  • Provide a caring approach to injured persons.

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

PUAEME001B/01 Identify need for emergency care
PUAEME001B/02 Ensure personal safety of carer and casualty
PUAEME001B/03 Reassure casualty
PUAEME001B/04 Assess casualty and implement emergency care procedures
PUAEME001B/05 Work cooperatively with personnel from other organizations
PUAEME001B/06 Recover and restore first aid equipment
PUAEME001B/07 Complete documentation

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PUAEME001B Provide Emergency Care.

Note: Trainees unable to meet course pre-requisites will only be issued with a Certificate of Training.

DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
5 hours of practical components using emergency care equipment in a range of emergency response simulated scenarios.
