DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel, who are members of an Emergency Response Team (ERT) on an industrial or mine site, required to operate portable and appliance-mounted pumps at an incident.

PRE-REQUISITES: None

DESCRIPTION:
This unit covers the skills and knowledge to operate portable and appliance-mounted pumps at an incident. This course is based upon PUAFIR309B Operate Pumps, but is not designed to meet the AQTF competency. It has been modified to fulfil the needs of non professional fire fighters who are part of an emergency response team on an industrial or mine site.

CONTENT:
Theoretical and practical exercises to:

  • obtain a continuous supply of water from different sources
  • maintain water supply to branch operators
  • maintain appropriate levels of pressure
  • respond appropriately to changing circumstances
  • use the correct proportion of foam and water as supplied/delivered, ensuring that supply of foam concentrate is maintained.

ELEMENTS OF TRAINING:

  • Prepare pump to deliver water
  • Operate pump
  • Conclude pump operations.

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
A Certificate of Training in ‘Pump Operations’ based upon PUAFIR309B Operate Pumps will be issued.

DELIVERY METHOD
Classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion. Practical components using fire fighting equipment in a range of simulated scenarios.
