DURATION: 3 days

DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who are new to the oil and gas industry and are keen to work offshore on the drill floor.

DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed for personnel who are new to the work environment of a drilling rig, and have limited knowledge of the terminology, equipment and processes used offshore. Trainees will participate in pre-tour meetings, identify hazards, follow workplace safety procedures during simulated work scenarios and follow emergency response procedures.

ERGT SPECIFIC PRE-REQUISITE: Current certification in OPITO TBOSIET. Elements include:

  • Introduction to living and working offshore
  • Safety induction
  • Emergency response and firefighting
  • Sea survival
  • Helicopter safety and escape

Trainees unable to meet the course pre-requisite will be required to undertake an additional Offshore Induction Training (half day) prior to enrolling in the Roustabout Induction Training course.

CONTENT:
Equips the trainee to be familiar and understand:

  • Safety procedures
  • Hazard identification
  • Manual handling
  • Handling tubulars / cargo
  • Height safety
  • Working in a team
  • Hoisting and slinging
  • Radio communications

All training provided will be in accordance with the relevant Nationally endorsed Training Packages:

Drilling Training Package 03

  • DRTOG01B - Assist with the health and safety of the working environment
  • DRTOG03B - Assist in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • DRTOG04B - Carry out equipment and basic rig maintenance

Metalliferous Mining Training Package MNM05

  • MNMC205A – Conduct local risk assessment

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees will be assessed against the learning outcomes (as listed in the DRT03 and MNM05 Training Packages) using direct observation; oral and/or written questions; use of a workbook and practical exercises where appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
Upon successful completion of these Units of Competency, trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in the DRT03 Drilling Training Package and MNM05 Metalliferous Mining Training Package.

DELIVERY METHOD:
All training will be conducted onshore by experienced personnel currently working within industry.
8 hours of theory components will be classroom based using audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
16 hours of practical activities will involve equipment familiarisation/ work scenarios on the fully operational training rig.

VENUE: ERGT, Jandakot and drill rig (local).

WHAT TO BRING: Safety boots.
