DESCRIPTION:
This Unit of Competency aims to provide the skills and knowledge required to implement a confined space management program, supervise personnel entering and working in a confined space and develop an awareness of strategies for managing change in the workplace.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Follow procedures, requirements and instructions to supervise work in a confined space.
  • Implement appropriate procedures/techniques for efficient and effective supervision of work in a confined space.
  • Comply with site risk control, HSE, quality and communication requirements.

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

MNMMSU411A/01 Prepare for work in the confined space
MNMMSU411A/02 Provide information about working in confined spaces
MNMMSU411A/03 Ensure that the safety and health of personnel entering and working in a confined space is not affected
MNMMSU411A/04 Supervise entry and work in a confined space
MNMMSU411A/05 Implement confined space emergency and rescue systems
MNMMSU411A/06 Withdraw from confined space and facilitate return to service

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate. Practical assessment in the completion of a variety of confined space tasks will demonstrate competence.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this Unit of Competence trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in MNMMSU411A Supervise Work in Confined Space.

DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
5 hours of practical components using specialised equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
