DURATION: 1 day

DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who work as a member of a team and who would be required to affect a rescue from a confined space.

PRE-REQUISITE:

PUASAR001B Participate in rescue operations

CO-REQUISITE:

PUAFIR307A Monitor hazardous atmospheres (Fire Specific Requirement)

ERGT SPECIFIC PRE-REQUISITES:
To complete the course in 1 day the minimum ERGT prerequisites are:

MSAPMPER205B Enter Confined Space
MSAPMOHS216A Operate Breathing Apparatus for Emergency Response
certification must be less than 12 months old in accordance with AS 1715 section 7.12
Trainees must also be clean shaven in accordance with AS 1715 Appendix E

DESCRIPTION:
In this Unit of Competency trainees demonstrate the skills required to undertake rescue in confined spaces as defined in AS2865 as a member of a single agency or multi-disciplinary team

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Extricate the casualty, minimising further injury to self and others.

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

PUASAR005B/01 Prepare for confined space rescue operation
PUASAR005B/02 Assess and manage confined space/trench rescue
PUASAR005B/03 Determine location and condition of casualties
PUASAR005B/04 Gain entry to confined space
PUASAR005B/05 Remove casualties
PUASAR005B/06 Conclude rescue operations

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PUASAR005B Undertake Confined Space Rescue. A Certificate of Training in PUASAR005B Undertake Confined Space Rescue will be issued if the prerequisites cannot be met.

DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
5 hours of practical components using specialised equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
