DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel, who, as a normal part of their normal work responsibilities and duties, act as members of an emergency response team on a nominated onshore and/or offshore facility.

DESCRIPTION:
In this Unit of Competency trainees demonstrate that they must be able to work alone and also within an environment which requires a high level of teamwork and interpersonal communication. A person undertaking this unit of competency should be able to respond to directives given either by emergency team leaders or other team members in order to contain and control the emergency.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Work effectively in a team
  • Recognise fire behaviour
  • Demonstrate the impact of fire fighting tactics
  • Conduct fire fighting operations in accordance with the organisation’s safe work practices.

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

PMAOHS213B/01 Respond to identified fire emergencies
PMAOHS213B/02 Deploy fire emergency equipment
PMAOHS213B/03 Undertake search of and rescue from affected areas

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PMAOHS213B Undertake Fire Control and Emergency Rescue.

Note: Trainees unable to meet course pre-requisites will ONLY be issued with a Certificate of Training and will be unable to participate in some practical scenarios.

DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, desktop activities and discussion.
5 hours of practical components using fire fighting equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
