DURATION: 1 day

DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who are required to manage non-fire incidents (i.e. members of a site incident response team). An ability to work under supervision and/or alone is required.

PRE-REQUISITES: None

DESCRIPTION:
This competency unit deals with recognising and controlling an emerging incident, including hazardous materials incidents to provide an appropriate initial response. The trainee is expected to provide an initial response in order to contain the incident and/or secure the immediate area in order to minimise resultant damages and loss. In this unit it is assumed that the trainee is acting according to established workplace procedures.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence is demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Identify hazard and incident signs and labels
  • Conduct evacuation of different areas
  • Operate various pieces of incident response equipment
  • Communicate details of an incident situation clearly.

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

MSAPMOHS210B/01 Assess level of severity
MSAPMOHS210B/02 Control the incident
MSAPMOHS210B/03 Participate in ancillary operations
MSAPMOHS210B/04 Conclude incident control

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in MSAPMOHS210B Undertake First Response to Non-fire Incidents.

DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, desktop activities and discussion.
5 hours of practical components using emergency response equipment in a range of simulated scenarios.
