DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who are required to affect an initial rescue arising from an incident on or off-shore. It could apply to personnel operating as a team member in a facility and may involve a confined space. This person might typically respond to an incident team leader once the incident is declared.
PRE-REQUISITES:
DESCRIPTION:
In a typical scenario, a person undertaking a task in a workplace may witness an incident or difficulty involving a co-worker. In these few initial critical minutes before other help arrives, the actions of the person may have a significant effect on the well-being of their co-worker. However, at no time should the person take any action that is likely to cause them to be equally placed at risk.
CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:
- Ensure that incident responses are in accordance with prescribed company procedures
- Use incident response equipment (where required) correctly
- Safely and/or successfully recover an individual and others, affected by the incident response, and afford priority in the actions taken
- Take appropriate actions that do not inhibit incident response effectiveness or further contribute to the incident
- Create appropriate documentation including reports, journal entries, logs and/or clearances are completed in accordance with procedures.

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.
CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this Unit of Competency trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PMAOMIR301A Undertake Initial Rescue.
Note: Trainees unable to meet course pre-requisites will ONLY be issued with a Certificate of Training and will be unable to participate in some practical scenarios.
DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
5 hours of practical components using rescue equipment in a range of simulated scenarios.
