DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who may come into contact with confined spaces in the workplace.

PRE- REQUISITES: None

DESCRIPTION:
ERGT recognised the need to deliver quality-training packages that meet the elements in the code of practice and assist the wine industry address its unique requirements and seasonal demands.

CONTENT:

  • Australian Standard AS2865-2001, legislation & guidelines for work in confined space
  • Identification of confined spaces and their hazards
  • Risk control procedures, JSA/JHA, and permit systems
  • Preparation of confined space for safe entry
  • Operation of gas detection & ventilation equipment
  • Selection, use & maintenance of height safety equipment for vertical access & rescue
  • Selection, use, and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment, including filter-type respirators & external air-supply (long-line)
  • Basic emergency preparedness.

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees will be judged against the learning outcomes using direct observation; oral and/or written questions; possible use of a workbook; and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency trainees will be issued with a Certificate of Training in Confined Space Awareness.

DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
5 hours of practical components to familiarise Trainees with confined space equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
