DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who are required to work under a permit system.

PRE-REQUISITES: None

DESCRIPTION:
This competency unit aims to ensure that people working under a permit to work understand the system, know the limitations of the permit under which they are working, and comply with all the requirements of the permit. This unit covers the basic competency of working under a permit. Where entry to a confined space is required, then MSAPMPER205B - Enter confined space is also required.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course of the course:

  • Provide reasons for a permit system
  • Recognise the importance of different work permits
  • Comply with permit conditions including the wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Take appropriate action to resolve faults or report faults to appropriate personnel
  • Explain and implement incident response procedures.

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

MSAPMPER200B/01 Identify the scope of the permit
MSAPMPER200B/02 Prepare for permitted work
MSAPMPER200B/03 Work in accordance with an issued permit
MSAPMPER200B/04 Complete permit to work

ASSESSMENT:
Assessment of underpinning knowledge will be by way of oral questioning and through the completion of a workbook. Trainees will also be required to demonstrate competence through a practical scenario simulating the permit to work system.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this Unit of Competency, trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in MSAPMPER200B Work in accordance with an issued permit.

DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
5 hours of practical components using JHAs and permits in a range of work-simulated scenarios.
