Enter Confined Space is designed for personnel who are required to enter a confined space as part of their usual work routine, and who also have responsibility of being the Permit Holder or Stand-by person.
DESCRIPTION:
This competency unit covers the control of entry to confined spaces, for maintenance, servicing of vessels or other necessary reasons. Work in/entry to confined spaces shall conform to relevant legislation and AS2865, or its authorised update or replacement.
It is expected that all persons entering a confined space, and the standby person, will be competent to enter confined space.
Trainees will learn the knowledge and skills necessary to safely work under supervision in a confined space, including the selection, use and maintenance of personal protective equipment, understand the permit system, know the limitations of the permit under which they are working, and comply with all the requirements of the permit.
CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:
- Identify confined spaces and their hazards
- Develop risk control procedures, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and permit systems
- Prepare the confined space for safe entry
- Operate gas detection & ventilation equipment
- Select, use and maintain height safety equipment for vertical access & rescue
- Select, use and maintain respiratory protective equipment, including filter-type respirators & external air-supply (long-line)
- Demonstrate basic emergency preparedness

DELIVERY METHOD:
7 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion.
9 hours of practical components using specialised equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.
