Where workers have to work at height there is always the risk that they may, despite good practice, get into difficulty and need assistance. Vertical Rescue training gives personnel both the knowledge of systems and equipment, and practical exposure to real-time rescue to ensure that rescue can be undertaken effectively and safely.

 



DURATION:
4 days

DESIGNED FOR:
Personnel who are required to undertake vertical rescue operations as a member of a rescue team.

DESCRIPTION:
The Vertical Rescue course is a training and assessment program which combines skills and knowledge from the PUASAR004 B Undertake vertical rescue with each of the pre-requisite and co-requisite competency’s (total of 5 competencies required before issue of PUASAR004B) skills and knowledge for optimal training delivery. Pre-requisites and co-requisites are all delivered in terms of undertaking vertical rescue operations.

CONTENT:
To prepare participants for successful completion of assessment activities the following content is delivered:
Legislation & References
Vertical Rescue Equipment and Techniques
Vertical Rescue Operations (including preventing injury, working in a rescue team, conducting searches, casualty management)

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

  • PUASAR004B/01 Prepare for and respond to vertical rescue
  • PUASAR004B/02 Assess scene
  • PUASAR004B/03 Establish vertical rescue system
  • PUASAR004B/04 Perform vertical rescue
  • PUASAR004B/05 Terminate vertical rescue operations

DELIVERY METHOD:
12 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion. 20 hours of practical components using vertical rescue equipment in a range of simulated rescue scenarios.


CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in

  • PUASAR004B - Undertake Vertical Rescue
  • PUATEA002B - Work autonomously
  • PUASAR001B - Participate in a rescue operation
  • PUATEA001B - Work in a team
  • PUAEME001B - Provide emergency care (RPL on production of a valid Senior First Aid certificate)
  • PUAFIR201B - Prevent Injury.

ASSESSMENT:
Participant learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.


PREREQUISITE:
PUASAR001B - Participate in a rescue operation
