This course in Undertake Helicopter Safety and Escape (HUET) teaches the skills and theory required to improve an individual’s chance of surviving a helicopter ditching in water.

Personnel who are required to regularly travel by helicopter over water

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the
duration of the course:

  • Offshore helicopter operations and general safety
  • Psychology and physiology of sea survival
  • Personal protective and emergency equipment deployment techniques, lifejacket use and operation
  • Helicopter abandonment procedures - surface and inverted
  • Individual and group survival techniques
  • Life raft operation and deployment techniques
  • Personal protective and emergency equipment deployment techniques, lifejacket use and operation

DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audiovisual material, practical desktop activities and discussion. 3.5 hours of practical components using specialised equipment in a series of exercises involving simulated helicopter abandonment and survival at sea.

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees will demonstrate/explain/identify their level of knowledge, skills and understanding through oral and/or written questioning and practical activities. Assessment for this unit of competency will involve helicopter ditching simulations.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PMAOHS214B Undertake helicopter safety and escape.
