OPTIO Offshore Installation Manager Assessment

This course is designed to assess Installation Managers or Facility Incident Commanders’ ability to manage major offshore emergencies.
DURATION:

2 days + 1 day for each candidate to complete the OIM Assessment

ASSESSMENT CONTENT:
A minimum of three emergency scenarios of increasing complexity will be used. Candidates are required to pass all three exercise scenarios. A fourth can be provided if candidate performance is borderline in any of the initial three assessments.
Each scenario will be based around a major incident, chosen from:

  • Well control incident
  • Explosion and fire
  • Accommodation fire
  • Helicopter incident
  • Pipeline incident
  • Collision or wave damage causing structural collapse
  • Loss of stability (mobile installations)
COMPETENCY:
These Units of Competency are concerned principally with emergencies involving large numbers of people and which, by their very nature, are threats to life, the installation and / or the environment.

METHOD OF TRAINING:
2 x days for simulator familiarisation & OIM practice sessions, plus 1 day for each OIM Assessment.
Trainees who successfully complete this course will be issued with an OPITO registered certificate to the standard: OIM’s Controlling Emergencies.

ASSESSMENT PRE-REQUISITES:
Course trainees should have completed an OPITO pre-assessment appraisal prior to attempting this assessment. Before certificates can be issued trainees must also provide a copy of the following, Element 1 – Maintain a State of Readiness (for OPITO), signed and completed by their OIM or Supervisor.

RE-QUALIFICATION:
Reassessment is recommended every 3 years under OPITO standard.
