This course is highly practical in nature with brief theory sessions used to develop knowledge and understanding. The aim of this course is provide trainees with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely carry out work tasks using Supplied Air Breathing Apparatus (SABA).

DESIGNED FOR:
Operate breathing Apparatus - Airline is designed for personnel who need to be able to confidently and efficiently use Supplied Air Breathing Apparatus (SABA) for work in hazardous environments.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Recognise the physiology of respiration
  • Identify the need for SABA
  • Don, wear, remove and service SABA equipment
  • Use a SABA in hazardous environments
  • Demonstrate correct entry control procedures

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

  • MSAPMOHS216A/01 Prepare to use breathing apparatus
  • MSAPMOHS216A/02 Use breathing apparatus
  • MSAPMOHS216A/03 Conclude operation

DELIVERY METHOD:
3 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion. 5 hours of practical components using Supplied Air Breathing Apparatus, in a range of work simulated scenarios.

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises simulating work task scenarios as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competence trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in MSAPMOHS216A Operate Breathing Apparatus Supplied Air Breathing Apparatus.
