Prevent Injury (PI)

The Prevent Injury unit covers the identification, avoidance, review, and evaluation of workplace risks and hazards, maintenance of personal safety and the reporting to supervisors and team members. These are covered in reference to the course content for which the delivery is integrated into e.g. undertaking vertical rescue.

This competency is not delivered as a stand-alone course.

DESIGNED FOR:
Integrated delivery within courses where prevent injury is a pre-requisite.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Correct identification of hazards in the workplace
  • Application of organisational procedures including the correct selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Advising and reporting workplace hazards in accordance with the organisation’s requirements
  • Notifying risks to a team and a supervisor in a timely manner.

  • PUAFIR201B/02 Implement hazard control procedures
  • PUAFIR201B/03 Review effectiveness of hazard control procedures
  • PUAFIR201B/04 Participate in the implementation of OH&S in the workplace

DELIVERY METHOD:
Integrated classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion. Integrated practical components using a range of hazard control equipment in a range of contextualised (e.g. confined space rescue) simulated work scenarios.

ASSESSMENT:
Participant’s learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as part of a combined assessment activity with the parent course.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of the parent unit of competency participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PUAFIR201B Prevent Injury in addition to competencies associated with the parent course.
