Respond to Isolated / Remote Structure Fire (RIRSF)

This unit of competency covers responding to an isolated/remote structure fire, when working as a member of a team or under direct supervision. Isolated/remote structures include houses and farm buildings. There may be a village with some community buildings or some agricultural buildings. All structures are isolated from each other and the possibility of fire spread between structures is extremely low.

This Unit of Competency does not cover fire fighting strategies at fires within any structures, nor fires involving dangerous goods and/or hazardous substances.

DURATION:
2 days

DESIGNED FOR:
Respond to Isolated / Remote Structure fire is designed for personnel who, as a normal part of the work responsibilities and duties, act as members of an emergency response team on a nominated onshore facility.

CONTENT:
It is essential that competence be demonstrated throughout the duration of the course:

  • Identify signs of structural collapse
  • Apply fire fighting techniques
  • Select and use appropriate protective clothing
  • Select and use of fire fighting equipment
  • Implement actions at the incident to avoid the risk of injury.

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

  • PUAFIR202B/01 Proceed to fire
  • PUAFIR202B/02 Prepare extinguishing media and/or equipment for use
  • PUAFIR202B/03 Combat fires
  • PUAFIR202B/04 Observe and report changes in conditions at the fire PUAFIR202B/05 Participate in ancillary operations
  • PUAFIR202B/06 Conclude fire fighting operations

DELIVERY METHOD:
8 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, practical desktop activities and discussion. 8 hours of practical components using fire-fighting equipment in a range of structure fire simulated scenarios.

ASSESSMENT:
Trainees learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this Unit of Competency trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PUAFIR202B Respond to Isolated and Remote Structure Fire and PUATEA001A Work in a Team.
