DURATION:
1 day
DESIGNED FOR:
Confined Space Rescue is designed for personnel who work as a member of an emergency response team and who would be required to affect a rescue from a confined space.
DESCRIPTION:
Following a confined space rescue theory session, course participants will participate in practical activities as team members in a confined space rescue team under the control of the instructor who will role play as team leader. The team will conduct rescue plan rehearsals for three different simulated confined spaces, two of which will be planned by participants in groups. This will be followed by simulated call-out practical activities based on the rehearsed rescue plans. The simulated confined space vessels are confined space vessels that have come from actual work locations but have been modified for the training environment to allow easy side access when required for participants to view internal rescue processes and as part of ERGT’s safety management system. As such the vessels are not defined confined spaces but allow for realistic simulation as a confined space work environment.
ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:
- E1 Prepare for confined space rescue operation
- E2 Assess and manage confined space/trench rescue
- E3 Determine location and condition of casualties
- E4 Gain entry to confined space
- E5 Remove casualties
- E6 Conclude rescue operations
DELIVERY METHOD:
1.5 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material and group based discussion. 6.5 hours of practical components using specialised equipment in a range of simulated work scenarios for learning and assessment
