Undertake Fire Control and Emergency Rescue (FCER)

FCER
The purpose of the undertake Fire Control and Emergency Rescue course is to deliver and assess the skills and knowledge required to conduct fire fighting operations as part of an emergency response team responding to fires in simulated workplaces. The course integrates delivery and assessment of knowledge and skills from MSAPMOHS212A Undertake first response to fire incidents and MSAPMOHS216A Operate breathing apparatus as a basis for addressing fires with hoses and branches. MSAPMOHS216A Operate breathing apparatus must be completed before further training and assessment of fire fighting internally.

DURATION:
1.5 days

DESIGNED FOR: Personnel who are required to function as a member of an emergency response team in order to meet and respond to fire emergencies in an onshore and/or offshore facility.

CONTENT:
To prepare participants for successful completion of assessment activities the following content is delivered:

Part 1

  • Emergency response procedure
  • Fires in the workplace
  • Hazardous materials
  • Fire Size-up
  • Fire suppression
  • Practice and assessment (external fire fighting)

Part 2

  • Characteristics of Internal fires
  • Internal Fire Fighting Hazards
  • Flashover
  • Backdraught
  • RECEO VES
  • Heat room
  • Practice and assessment

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

  • PMAOHS213B/01 Respond to identified fire emergencies
  • PMAOHS213B/02 Deploy fire emergency equipment
  • PMAOHS213B/03 Undertake search of and rescue from affected areas

DELIVERY METHOD:
4 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, desktop activities and discussion. 8 hours of practical components using fire fighting equipment in a range of work simulated scenarios.

ASSESSMENT:
Participant’s learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in PMAOHS213B Undertake Fire Control and Emergency Rescue.
