The purpose of this course is to deliver and assess the skills and knowledge to use a range portable fire fighting equipment, including portable fire extinguishers, fire hose reels and fire blankets. The course discusses application of these skills in the context of responding to an actual or simulated fire incident and assesses their attitude when faced with a simulated fire scenario.

DESIGNED FOR:
Undertake First Response to Fire Incidents is designed for Personnel who may be able to provide an appropriate first response to a fire incident as part of their normal work duties or living environment.

CONTENT:
To prepare participants for successful completion of assessment activities the following content is delivered:

  • Characteristics of fire
  • Fuel types
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Hose Reels
  • First Response Procedures
  • Hose reel demonstration
  • Fire blanket demonstration
  • Fire extinguishers demonstration

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

  • MSAPMOHS212A /01 Identify fire emergency and raise alarm
  • MSAPMOHS212A /02 Initiate basic fire responses
  • MSAPMOHS212A /03 Notify responsible authorities
  • MSAPMOHS212A /04 Undertake safe evacuation

DELIVERY METHOD:
2 hours of classroom theory PowerPoint presentations, including audio-visual material, desktop activities and discussion. 1 hour of practical components using portable fire fighting equipment.

ASSESSMENT:
Participant’s learning outcomes will be assessed using direct observation, oral and/or written questions, and/or use of a workbook, and practical exercises as appropriate.

CERTIFICATION:
On successful completion of this unit of competency participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in MSAPMOHS212A Undertake first response to fire incidents.
